10-15 - The Cost

First of all, thank you to Zach and Maria for pulling things together last week when I couldn't be there!  It sounds like everyone had a great time!  Next Wed, the 15th, we'll be doing our next regular group.  This week, we'll be talking about "the cost" of discipleship.  What do we really gain by following Christ, what do we stand to lose?

Fatima - Zach wanted me to encourage everyone to swing by the Church at noon on Saturday 10/14 for the Fatima Rosary.  if you're around, stop by, it would be a good thing to join up for the Rosary.

Lesson -This week will finish the introductory sessions of YDisciple, so we'll also have to choose our first topic series.  I'll pull them all up on Wednesday and we can pick one!  As we move along, It's good to have the regular program, but don't feel like we have to do it every week.  It's your group, let's hear some ideas!

Praise & Worship - I did notice that we're going to have a conflict for this month's praise and worship adoration.  The last Sunday of October is SHYCON, the First Sunday of November is All Souls Day.  I'd like to keep it going, but we need to pick another day.  Start thinking about when you'd like that to be.

March for Life - Special thanks to Mrs. Roy for helping to start to get some plans together.  I just finished a poster today, so I'll show it to you guys this week to see what you think!  As you may know, we're doing the overnight trip this year, to the Vigil for life, then the Youth Rally and Mass for Life, and then into the March for Life.  It's an incredible, life-changing experience, you won't want to miss it!  We're aiming for the cost to be $10/person and open to anyone in grades 7-12.  I'll be adding a new section to the JPII site with info about the March for Life very soon.

Fundraising - As we all know, the stuff we do as a group (especially the march) does cost money.  So we need to do some fundraising coming up here soon.  We have a few immediate projects in mind.  First, thanks to Mrs. Eger, we will be doing apple pies again.  Mark your calendars, the weekend will be Friday Nov 21st-Saturday Nov 22nd.  Start to think back of who helped, and who we can ask to help!  I know they're a lot of work, but I've also heard you guys know what you're doing and aren't afraid of getting your hands dirty :-D   We're also looking at doing the Baby Bottle Campaign.  Basically we pass out baby bottles and ask people to donate their spare change.  Proceeds will go for our March trip, and anything over will go to Gabriel project.  If an upperclassmen or a parent is interested in spearheading that, please let me know, we need to get things moving soon.

Service Projects - As we move along and as we're getting things in gear, it's also time to start thinking about some good service project we could do as a group.  I'm open to ideas, so start thinking!  Let's make it happen!  Remember, aside from the fact that we want to give back anyway, it's a really good way for us to attract new members to our group!

Thant's all I can think of for now!  God Bless, and see you all on Wednesday!
-Fr. Matt
