Obtaining State Clearances

Due to the New State Law, 3 Clearances are required for all youth group volunteers.  If you volunteer at a school, sports team, etc. you may have already done these.  If you have already done these clearances elsewhere and they are less than 3 years old, simply make a photocopy of all 3 and drop them off at the parish office in an envelope marked "youth group" - These clearances are good for 3 years

1. State Police Clearances:  Visit https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp  Put in your applicable information.  There is a $10 fee (After July 25, there is no fee for volunteers)

2. ChildLine Clearances: Visit https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home - Create an account and input your information.  If (God Forbid) you should ever need to file a report, you would use this same login/password.  There is a $10 fee. (after July 25, there is no fee for volunteers)

3. FBI Clearances - These must be completed ONLY if you have NOT lived within the State of PA for the last 10 years consecutively.  (if you have been to college out of state in the last 10 years, you must still do these)
  • If you HAVE NOT lived outside of PA in the last 10 years - Fill out the form attached at the bottom of this page.

  • If you HAVE lived outside of PA in the last 10 years, you must be fingerprinted, and there is a fee of $27.50 - visit http://www.upj.pitt.edu/en/about-us/background-check-service/ and there are clear instructions.  From the "Cogent" page, you need to use the "Department of Human Services" Link.
    • Under Agency - St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2310 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA 15904
    • Under "Reason Fingerprinted" - put "Employment with a significant likelyhood of regular contact with children."

Again - this is a PA STATE requirement -- If you ALREADY have ANY of these clearances from another volunteer organization OR from work, you DO NOT need to redo them.

All you need to do is put a photocopy of all 3 forms in an envelope and drop it off at the parish.  If you come during normal hours, we can make a copy for you!

There WILL be an additional Diocesan training, but we're waiting for an update on how that will change.
